What's Going on This Weekend in CLE, June 8-10th, 2012

Here's a roundup of this weekend's events and activities:

23rd Parade in the Circle and CircleVillage
Saturday, June 9th from 11am-4pm in Wade Oval
This "fabulous, fun, and FREE celebration" is entertaining and great for people of all ages! Come enjoy the parade, which begins at noon, and watch the colorful, animated display of floats, puppets, costumes, musicians, and dancers. Hang out in Wade Oval for an afternoon filled with live music, activities, and delicious food! For more information about the parade, click here!


7th Annual Fine Art Fair at Crocker Park
June 9-10th; Saturday 10am-8pm, Sunday 11am-6pm
Featuring more then 100 nationally and locally known fine art and crafts artists displaying a variety of mediums. In the past there has been a children's tent, where they can make their own arts and crafts project to take home! For more information about the Fine Art Fair, click here.


Cars, Crafts, & Strawberries Festival at Mapleside Farms
Sunday, June 10th from 10am-4pm
FREE Admission, Crafts exhibits, Classic cars, BBQ, Strawberries desserts galore! Fun for the whole family!

CanalWay Sunset Concert
Friday, June 8th from 7:30-9pm at the CanalWay Center
Come hear the Chardon Polka Band, and eight year old band that will not disappoint! Bring a chair or blanket.

Here's a roundup of all the FREE and cheap summer movie programs and events in the greater Cleveland area this summer.

Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express
Select theaters offer G or PG movies for only $1/person on Tuesday and Wednesday Mornings at 10am from June 19th through August 15th. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Will Rogers Institute. The two participating theaters in the Cleveland area are:

Cleveland Cinemas FREE Summer Kids Fest *NEW* (Thanks, Rochelle!)
Select Cleveland Cinemas locations will be presenting a series of 6 FREE family films this summer. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. Doors open at 9:30 AM. Films will play at 10AM at these locations on the following weekdays:

Plaza Cinemas at Chapel Hill - Tuesdays
Chagrin Cinemas - Wednesdays
Solon Cinemas - Thursdays
Capitol Theatre - Fridays

Fun films for kids, and all are rated G or PG. Get 10 shows for $5 if purchased in advance or $1/show at the door. Shows are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and start at 9:30am, and they run from June 12 & 13 through August 14 & 15. Local theaters include:

Movies in the Park at Crocker Park
Movies will be shown every Thursday evening at 9pm starting June 7th through August 30th in the West Park, behind Game Stop. Movies will end around 10:30pm. The films will cover all ages and genres. There's something for everyone! And best of all, it's FREE!! Click here for the complete schedule.


Moonlight Movies at Legacy Village
Movies will be shown on the third Wednesday of each month during the summer from 9-11pm on the Lawn (located between Bar Louie and California Pizza Kitchen). They are FREE! The dates for the summer are:
  • June 20th (feature presentation is The Muppets)
  • July 18th
  • August 15th
There will be movie-themed kids activities on the Lawn with Radio Disney from 7-9pm before the movie begins. If the event is cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled for June 27th. For more information, click here

FREE Outdoor Concert Series in Cleveland for Summer 2012

Here is a round-up of all the great, local outdoor concert series that are starting for the summer! They start THIS WEEKEND and most run through early September. Hopefully you will take time to enjoy some of them! :)

  • Concerts feature a wide variety of genres and styles
  • Admission is FREE, with the exception of June 15th, July 20th, August 31st (these are Premium Concerts and cost $2/person or $5/Family of 3 or more)
  • Wine, beer, and food are available for purchase
  • Bring your own chair or blanket, relax, and enjoy the view!

Summer Concert Series at Shaker Square
  • Every Saturday night from June 23-August 18, 6-9pm
  • Admission is FREE
  • Bring a chair or blanket, or you can listen from a restaurant patio while you enjoy dinner!
  • There is currently no concert schedule posted

  • This concert series takes place on the Green at First & Main in Hudson
  • Concerts run from July-August on Fridays and Saturdays, 7-9pm
  • Schedule and more details will be posted when they become available

FREE Fun in the Water at Splash Pads in Cleveland

There are several Splash Pads in the Greater Cleveland area, and they are a free, safe way to have fun in the water this summer! They are open for the season starting Memorial Day (when the temperature reaches 80 degrees) and close on Labor Day. These are the ones that I'm aware of, and the details are as follows:

North Ridgeville Splash Pad, located in South Central Park. This splash park is completely fenced in and good for small children. Open daily from 10am-9pm, Memorial Day to Labor Day. Click here for more details. As of this summer in 2012, this splash pad is now open only to residents of North Ridgeville.

Medina Splash Pad, located in Fred Greenwood Park on West Sturbridge Drive across from A.I. Root Middle School. Open 11am-8pm, Memorial Day to Labor Day. Click here for more details.

Lake Ridge Academy Splash Zone in Westlake, located in Crocker Park off the roundabout right behind Game Stop. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day, from 10am-4pm and again from 7pm-10pm every day (Sunday hours are 11am-4pm only). Children must wear shoes.

Old Brooklyn Splash Pad, located in Loew Park. Newly constructed in 2011. Splash pad and 3 ft. pool open daily at 12pm.

There are many other Splash Pads located in parks throughout the Cleveland area. They are open when the weather hits 80 degrees from 11am-6pm, Memorial Day thru Labor Day. The parks are listed below:

Halloween at Crocker Park on October 31st

The 2nd Annual Crocker Park Pet Parade and Costume Contest takes place Sunday, October 31 from 12-4pm ~ Featuring trick-or-treating, games and more, the afternoon event is fun for both kids and their four-legged friends. The Pet Parade begins at 12:30 p.m., and winners are crowned at 1 p.m. Owners may register their costumed pets starting at noon. Registration is $5. All proceeds benefit the Cleveland Animal Protective League.

The schedule of events at the Crocker Park Pet Parade and Costume Contest is as follows:
12 p.m. Registration for participating costumed pets
12:30 p.m. Pet Costume Parade
1 p.m. Contest awards
2:00-4:00 p.m. Trick-or-Treating (at participating stores)
Brain Drain Prize Game (at Learning Express Toys)

Enjoy the View at FREE Local Art Festivals This Fall

Fall Art Festival at Crocker Park, September 18 & 19
"Grab your favorite sweater and your favorite pal and celebrate the change of season with Crocker Park as it introduces the Crocker Park Fall Fest & Fine Art Fair, Saturday, September 18, 10am-7pm & Sunday, September 19, 11am-5pm. The unique and charming Crocker Park is at the intersection of Crocker and Detroit Roads in Westlake. The Fall Fest will feature a wine tasting, fresh apple cider, a fun clam bake, a special fall farmers market, children’s activities and a fine art fair with artist demonstrations all in the unique setting of the elegant Crocker Park. It’s a weekend of fun, food, wine, art, fashion, music and more!" Admission and parking are FREE.

2010 Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival, September 18 & 19
"The Twelfth Annual Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival returns to Lincoln Park. The weekend Festival is comprised of four categories or program areas which include: Children's-hands-on arts, historical, and educational projects; Community-area non-profit organizations presenting material about their mission and services; Cultural-food sales by Tremont churches, other non-profit organizations, and Tremont restaurants reflecting the ethnic diversity of the neighborhood; and sales of paintings, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and photographs created by Tremont and Northeast Ohio artists. The Festival will also have music and dance performances both Saturday and Sunday on one main stage located near Kenilworth Avenue between West 14th Street and West 11th Street. Art in the Village II at Legacy Village, September 25 & 26
Saturday, September 25 – 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday, September 26 – 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
"Art in the Village is back for a fall appearance! Don’t miss an eclectic mix of the nation’s most talented artist, who will collectively display millions of dollars in artwork. The artists, juried by an independent panel of expert judges, are hand-selected from hundreds of applicants based on quality and diversity. Admission and parking are FREE."

2010 Tremont ArtWalk
This event has taken place all year on the second friday of each month from 6-10 pm, and the remaining dates for this year are October 8, November 12, and December 10. Many galleries and studios that normally keep restricted hours are open for ArtWalk. There is usually music or other performance art. Tremont is rich in fine dining and pub life. For those who prefer a quieter experience, many galleries are open the following day (Saturday).

The 5th Annual Crocker Park Fine Art Fair, June 12-13

More then 125 artists will be featured at this year's Art Fair at Crocker Park in Westlake, Ohio. As you stroll along and enjoy the variety of artwork, make sure to stop by the "Imagination Station," where kids can participate in some arts and crafts activities of their own. There will be entertainment and festive food available, as well. This event is FREE and open to the public. See the link below for further details, and enjoy!
